Glossary

There are numerous considerations regarding ground work and the foundation of your timber frame house, including climate; topography and how it relates to water runoff, wind, vegetation, shading and road layout; soil composition; and local zoning ordinances and building codes.

For instance, the composition of the soil has a major influence on a siteÕs excavation costs for driveway, house foundation, septic and drainage systems. It also determines the type of vegetation that may be grown, which is important for inhibiting erosion and providing shade. That's why soil samples and other tests are a crucial part of laying the proper ground work.
