• Walls & Insulation

A number of factors including climate, insulation needs and budget, influence the selection of exterior enclosure systems. We use two most popular methods. In the warmer climate of the south, where insulation needs are lower we use stud wall construction to enclose the areas between the timbers. Where the winters are colder we use stress skin panels, which have a layer of foam insulation sandwiched between the outside sheathing panel and drywall inside.

Interlocking stress skin panels are attached to the frameÕs exterior, which reveals the timberwork on the inside of the house. This panel system allows homeowners to take advantage and convenience of modern technology to provide efficient insulation while enjoying the beauty and openness of traditional timber framing.

• Windows and Doors

Because our basic timber frame design structures are economical, we are able to include other special features, such as rounded stained glass windows that frame mountain views. Our Velux skylights and Malta casement windows are of the highest quality. A wide selection of models guarantees that you will find one to fit your style.

• Exterior Finishes

Usually we use vertical wood siding; but a timber frame house is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of exterior wall finishes, from clapboard and brick to stone and stucco or a combination of different styles.

• Roof & Gutters

The complete roofing system protects your investment in the timber frame house from pouring rain, freezing temperature, heavy wind, scorching heat and fire. Waterproof underlayment helps prevent wind-driven rain and melting ice from getting under the shingles. It also improves fire resistance when installed under the shingles. The ridge vent maximizes the beauty and integrity of your roof by providing proper attic ventilation when installed with soffit and eave vents. To add the perfect finishing touch we install special copper gutters and drain pipes. Copper ages gracefully; it acquires a rich green patina and gives long lasting beauty to your house.

• Interior Layout

Timber frame houses offer great flexibility in how the interior is layed out. The house invites you to create high open spaces with lofts and cathedral ceilings and large windows to let in the views of the outdoors. Unlike in typical 2x4 stud-wall buildings, the timber frame gives the house its structural integrity. None of the interior wall are load bearing, so you can have as few or as many walls anywhere you wish. Elegant and strong wooden frame members become major features of the interior design, as well as natural and logical places to make room divisions.
